iChat and gtalk

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Sometime today they stopped being friendly... I am using the web-based gtalk client in gmail, but it doesn't make any sound, so if you have AIM, contact me there if you need me badly. Otherwise email is (usually) working! Edit (7/25/06): they seem to be working again...

Google Quote of the day…

Sunday, June 25th, 2006

Maybe they are in a bad patch, but is there anything so worthless as the quotations that google is squeezing out on their quote of the day section of the personalized homepage? edit: I was going to add a few, but todays aren't so bad... and I can't get at the previous ...

Calling Real and Microsoft

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

What is the point of even letting me download for OS X something called "Real Player" or "Window Media Player" from your respective sites when 9 times out of 10 they do not play Real or Windows media?

Amazon Search

Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Ok... I have recently bought a few books for my MA-Christian Outreach classes on Amazon.com. Their search is not very good at all... There have been two books that I had to put the ISBN in to get them. Putting the Author and Title should be sufficient to at least get ...

Comments

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

I think my IT department fixed registration, so if you haven't been able to comment because you haven't been able to register, you should now. I sent out a few already to people who have told me they were unable to comment.

Sorry Thomas.

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

Didn't mean to drag yo' name through the mud with a caveat and leave it at that for so long... You are a big boy, you can handle it. So my bro' sent me that link mostly because he had like 36 pages of crud to write in a week or ...

Google is not the Answer

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006

Recently, in my job, I have been given the opportunity to spend quite a bit of time at a really nice health club. 2 days a week I get to workout (cardio machines/weight machines/etc.) and 2 days I get to swim (pool, sauna, steamroom, whirlpool). My brother is "teh expert" on ...

The Time Is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Wired News Report 12:45 PM Apr, 04, 2006 Where New York Times columnist David Pogue latched onto this fascinating factoid, there's no telling. But as randomly useless bits of trivia go, this is definitely worth noting. Pogue writes: Late tonight -- specifically, 123 seconds ...

Two SPAM attempts

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Since I switched to WordPress, this blog has had two spam attempts, and they have both been on this post about tea. Odd.

Great Blog

Friday, March 10th, 2006

I've been catching up on John Siracusa's Blog Fatbits, which is a great blog for nerdy macheads like myself. I really enjoyed this little tidbit: Any viable solution must work within the (often inconvenient) bounds of reality. That's something just about everyone can be reminded about all all the time.

Online Computer Applications

Monday, March 6th, 2006

I never thought they could do it, but Google, with Gmail, has successfully taken webmail and made it good enough that I don't want to launch an application on my computer and check my mail that way. I'll say it now (and take it back in 5 years, most likely) ...

Obituary Revisited

Monday, January 30th, 2006

When you search Google for "Dwight Knoll" right now they put the post that contains my imaginary obituary. I don't know if that is because that is the last time they cached my site, or what, but I hope that people aren't freaked out by it...

HTML comment

Monday, January 30th, 2006

the tag "em" is supposed to be replacing "i" for reasons I don't quite understand. When I cite a book, I will want it to always appear as "I"tallics not as "EM"phasis. I know that people can make a style sheet with something else for "i" just as easy as "em" ...

Christian Advertisers

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005

"Christian" Advertisers on Google suck.... I think I need to make my blog a little more edgy so that I can get some 'worthwhile' ads on the side there... (for fun, I click on them occasionally... maybe I can put some of them out of business and make some money at ...

Ideas

Sunday, November 27th, 2005

Two ideas came to me yesterday, and they seemed really good to me yesterday. See what you think. 1. Ok, I'm watching Sopranos with Thomas and Kim. We are almost done with the fourth season, so maybe this won't work because of what has happened in subsequent episodes. I think they ...

Turkey makes me…

Friday, November 25th, 2005

...sleepy? No, not according to snopes: Turkey does contain tryptophan, an amino acid which is a natural sedative. But tryptophan doesn't act on the brain unless it is taken on an empty stomach with no protein present The protein in the turkey should take care of the problem.

New Blog

Saturday, November 19th, 2005

My friend, Sir Robert, has a blog now. We are starting a business together (amazingrestoration.com) He's pretty cool and about 90 times smarter than me, so you can just imagine what his blog will be like.

Analytics

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Google just released a free page statistics tracker. Pretty cool. I'm using it for my site, because the other ones I've used weren't free, or the free version was limited.
