iPhone Camera

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

I've seen a few people online whining about the 2 megapixel camera on the iPhone. I'm not sure how big the sensor is (I only looked at the specs page) but there is actually a maximum number of pixels you want for a digital camera sensor. Learn more at 6mpixel.org

This is why AppleCare is good

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

I just got back from the Apple Store. My MacBookPro had been shutting down when the processor or hard drive really got cranking (i.e. I was using my computer). They couldn't figure out the problem, so they gave me a new computer. It's about 2x the computer I had before. HD: 80GB ...

Adobe Flash vs. Apple

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

...is killing my computer. My laptop has two processors, so when I look at the process list anytime I have a program that is running flash, it is at the top of the list with around 98% of one of the processors. This makes my computer very hot. My computer was either ...

Automator.app

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

I finally used it! I tend to have trouble finding things that applescript or automator.app are able to do that I also want to do. (i.e. there are plenty of things that they can do, and there are plenty of things I want to do, but I've had trouble finding where ...

Gmail Browser

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Gmail Browser! Why? I had been keeping until a few days ago a separate firefox window just for gmail. But I'm tired of Firefox freaking out and deciding that it only knows the email address that I don't want to use for a contact that has two emails. When I switched ...

rooSwitch Lite

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

I think I may have posted this before, but rooSwitch Lite is an awesome utility if you have a laptop Mac and an external HD. This lets you have separate iPhoto and iTunes Libraries for when you are plugged in to your HD and when you are away from your ...

Welcome back, Mail.app

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

So, Google has finally activated IMAP on my gmail account, so I'm giving it a try with Leopard Mail. It's kinda nice to be able to see my gmail archives w/o searching... We'll see how this goes. *1. Mail.app is downloading my entire archive right now. *2. When I delete something from ...

Web Clips Idea

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Safari 3 has a cool new button that lets you grab bits of webpages and turn them into widgets. Usually things like this never really spark anything in me, because I'll think of one thing I would use them for and that thing ends up not working... This time it ...

I saw the beach ball…

Monday, October 29th, 2007

First of all... Leopard is much quicker, so the beach ball is a very rare thing. Tiger (which probably contained all sorts of optimizations to make the beach ball need to appear less often) seemed to change the code that said "display the beach ball" so that sometimes everything would ...

Is the Beach Ball Gone?

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

Since upgrading to Leopard, I don't remember seeing the spinning beach ball of doom at all... I have seen the old skool ticking watch cursor though... (much less often than the beach ball before...)

Application Launchers

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Sapiens is what I'm trying out right now. It has replaced quicksilver for the moment, but I haven't gotten to do much with it yet. I know that quicksilver is more than just an application launcher, but because of all that extra cool stuff (that I never use) it is ...

Sudden Loss of Hard Drive Space, Mac OS X

Monday, August 13th, 2007

If you recently lost about 10GB of hard drive space on your Mac, it may be because the iDisk just increased it's size (up to 10 GB). If you would like to get this space back, turn off "iDisk Syncing" under the iDisk tab in the .Mac preference pane. The ...

Safari 3.0 Beta (Now for XP and Vista!)

Monday, June 11th, 2007

I'm trying it out... (Get it here) Nice to see Google's applications working. The one thing that would be nice is "Open all tabs in current window" You can do it (about 99% of the time) with some plugin I picked up somewhere, but I don't like those plugins. The weirdest thing ...

iPhone

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

The new iPhone commercials look really good. I'm most excited about the ability to find a place nearby with Google and dial that number. My guess is that the iPhone locates you using cell phone tower triangulation. It wouldn't really even need triangulation. As long as you had a signal ...

iTunes U

Lots of free higher education content is now available on iTunes. I was about to search for Greek when I noticed that Elementary Greek from Concordia is available. Cool!

Free Application Update:

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

Here are some Free Apps that I have found useful: 1001 I use this for Flickr uploading now days. None of the options are great, but this one does it the least annoyingly. Mount This is a quicker alternative to Apple's included Disk Copy.app for mounting all the disk images that come down ...

Absurdly Slow Aspects of Mac OSX

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

There are a few things that really bug me about OSX. The most common being the "spinning beach-ball of death" iDisk: What is the point of keeping a local copy of the iDisk if it takes forever to show the files, as if it was checking the server to get the file ...

Free Ruler is a screen measuring application. I needed one last night and found this. It works.

Zoom in on Mac

Friday, January 19th, 2007

I got this hint from MacNify if you need to zoom in on any part of the screen in OSX (Don't know when this feature was added, I'm using 10.4.8) there is an option in the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane that lets you add a trackpad gesture: "Zoom while holding..." ...
