The Hole in our Gospel

My Red Pill
This book does not say anything new, but it was exactly what I needed to hear when I read it.
Richard Stearns basically points out that Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” cannot be understood without looking at the next verse: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
He doesn’t say that the hole (the good works for which we have been saved) is everything, but he does point out that preaching “by grace through faith” and saying “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled!” is not fulfilling our mission in the world.
At some points while reading this book I did feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the task before us, but the author makes sure to mention that we all just need to do a little bit. We need to not be discouraged by the whole so that we do not do our part.
