I like how they used to put the first word from the next page at the bottom of the page so you know if you skipped a page.

It probably made a lot more sense back then when your poorly bound pages were falling out left and right. And maybe people were poor readers with no sense of context.
I like how monks wrote the first letter of each bible chapter really really big to indicate you were supposed to shout it when you started reading to wake up people that had fallen asleep while listening. I think that’s super handy.
Do you yell just the first letter? or the whole first word?
