Automator.app

I finally used it!

I tend to have trouble finding things that applescript or automator.app are able to do that I also want to do. (i.e. there are plenty of things that they can do, and there are plenty of things I want to do, but I’ve had trouble finding where those two areas overlap.)

I used it today to remove capital letters in a bunch of file names. It totally worked, and it was easy.

  2. Nice! I still haven’t successfully done anything with either. A while back, I wanted to automatically apply album art or something to all my mp3s. Automator didn’t have the hooks, and AppleScript is confusing! But I’m glad you were able to use it. :-)

  3. yeah… it’s all about the hooks…

I think the mid 90’s was the real heyday of AppleScript… You have to have application writers who write good libraries if you want to use AppleScript. Automator doesn’t seem to have fixed that chokepoint…

  4. HAHA, I remember watching the tour of Tiger when I first got my Powerbook and thinking that Automator seemed very, very useful. But then I never ever used it. Glad you did!
