Genesis 29
January 21, 2008 – 7:51 ama.k.a. Laban sucks.
Two things really hit me this time around through Genesis 29.
The first was Jacob’s response to seeing Rachel for the first time. He’s hanging out next to the stone that covers the well which requires all the shepherds to work together in order that it might be budged (note that there were three shepherds there already, and they couldn’t water their sheep yet.)
Rachel comes bounding over the hill with her flock, Jacob sees her and goes over and roll’s the stone away himself.
That’s pretty cool.
The second thing that struck me was how despicable Laban was. Seven years of hard labor after this little interaction he goes and switches in his oldest daughter for Rachel whom Jacob was expecting. Then Seven years after that, he makes a new deal with Jacob and does all he can to rip him off one more time.
Good thing for Jacob that God was on his side, despite Jacob’s own homeopathic efforts to increase his flocks.
