The ONE Campaign is an effort by Americans to rally Americans – one by one – to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE is students and ministers, punk rockers and NASCAR moms, Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life, united to help make poverty history.

The ONE Campaign derives its name from the belief that allocating an additional one percent of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world’s poorest countries. We also call for debt cancellation, trade reform and anti–corruption measures in a comprehensive package to help Africa and the poorest nations beat AIDS and extreme poverty.

The goal of ending poverty may seem lofty, but it is within our reach if we take action together as one. You can start now by joining the ONE Campaign and pledging your voice to the fight against extreme poverty and global AIDS.

Matthew 26:11

The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.

John 15:5

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

I’m for just about everything one.org is for, but I will not join in any secular-humanist, semi-secular-humanist, or even non-secular-humanist effort to do these things. Give the gospel to the poor, feed the poor, help the poor in every way, but don’t join in building the tower of babel that any effort to “end poverty” will end up being.

  2. I think you are missing the point on two sides.

    1) the ONE campaign is not trying to end poverty - it is trying to end extreme poverty. They are trying to get the countrys in Africa and other places that have no way of getting out of debt, out of debt. It is not about ending personal poverty, but poverty on the national level.

    2) the quote from Luke is taken out of context. You know it and I know it.

  3. Yeah, that is why Jesus only ministered in the synagogues, and never fed people unless they signed up for his seminars.

  4. Like I said, I’m for most of the things they are for, except “ending poverty” (quotation from their about page.)

I won’t join them because I’m called to spread the gospel. I think any secular-humanist, or non-secular humanist effort is not remaining in Him.

@keith… which one? Matthew or John?

  5. what is secular?

  6. something that does not deal with spreading the news that despite our sins, Christ has reconciled us to God.

but you will notice that I don\’t care if it is non-secular if it is still humanist

  7. I still love you little brother, but you disturb me.

  8. So you are saying you won’t be a part of anything that is not “Christian?”

  9. I’m saying that the problem in this world is Sin. I’m worried about evangelism way more than poverty. I am worried about poverty though, and I won’t, myself, support something that is going to go in and teach, however non-overtly a gospel of prosperity and leave it at that.

  10. how is that a gospel of prosperity when they don’t even have FOOD???!!!!

But yet our churches don’t prosper right? Many people are giving to these huge churches and spending millions of dollars on things that don’t care for people. Jesus cared for people…HE ALWAYS CARED FOR THEIR NEEDS AT THE SAME TIME HE SHARED THE HOPE. And if you are so concerned with sharing the gospel then you darn well better get out into those “secular” parts and be a part of them so that you can bring a hope to them in Jesus. To share the gospel away from the people and away from what cares for people is not sharing the gospel.

  11. or, you can not be a part of the secular organization and do that anyway.

  12. “I have three things I’d like to say today. First, while you were sleeping last night, 30,000 kids died of starvation or diseases related to malnutrition. Second, most of you don’t give a shit. What’s worse is that you’re more upset with the fact that I said shit than the fact that 30,000 kids died last night.”

“There are 2,000 verses of Scripture that tell us we must be committed to protecting the poor and the oppressed… There is no concern of Scripture that is addressed so often and so powerfully as reaching out to the poor.”

  14. and, again, I love you… I just can’t quite understand your perspective on this one.

  15. or how about being part of those organizations and bringing the Hope of Christ to that organization? That’s just how I see Jesus roll in the bible.

On a side note, I hope you had a good birthday.
