And Universal Pictures’ “Miami Vice,” the top film last weekend, took a steep fall in its second weekend. The film dropped an estimated 62% to $9.7 million. The film, which cost an estimated $135 million to make, has returned $45.7 million thus far. Universal is a unit of General Electric Co.
All sorts of peculiarities:
1. How in the world does any film cost $135 Million? I imagine that they just have dump-trucks carrying away the cash to be buried in diverse locations. It makes me laugh when these moves (e.g. Miami Vice and The Hulk) don’t even come close to making back all that money they poured kerosene on like the oranges in Grapes of Wrath.
2. Why does General Electric (those guys who make my lightbulbs) own a movie studio?
