Reminiscences

Just a few thoughts from my half week in Michigan for LT and MJ’s wedding:

For those of you that weren’t able to be there, it was frickin’ awesome.

I got to go on a tour of the Ford Rouge Plant. It was very interesting to see all the history in that place. They mentioned multiple times the Battle of the Overpass, and how great that was for Ford Motor Company. They seemed to be appeasing the UAW, but it sounded odd amidst all the praise for Henry Ford. It was also great to see an original T-Bird and Mustang (along with the 10 millionth Model A, a Ford V8, and a ‘48 (or was it ‘49?) Coupe). Also interesting to me was seeing the F150’s being built (from right above the assembly line). They were working on all models and all colors one right after the other. I guess I would have thought they would do all the black 2-door models for the day, then move to the next color or model, but they didn’t… I guess it was because they were shipping them out as they filled the trucks, so they were filling the trucks with the exact model they needed.

Dave Ferrell and I went off looking to get our duds lined up for the big day. We had a great map made by Mr. Doktor, but we had some (non-map related) trouble finding the Target. This target was in such a position that the only way we would have been able to see that the building was a Target would be to look back after we passed it. We were both pretty worn out, because of the Batchelor Party the night before,

and there were detours on basically every road that we drove on. The long and short of it is that it took about 4 hours to do all we needed to do and it wasn’t very fun. The highlight of the trip was that the return-lady at Target was chatting with us and we mentioned that we were in a wedding. She asked us where it was and we said that it was at a house. She immediately said “It isn’t on Lone Pine Road is it?” We were kinda freaked out because that was exactly where it was, but we found out that she was just joking around. There are lots of mansions on that road, so that was the first place she though of for a “house wedding.” She asked us if it was anyone famous, and about 30 minutes later I realized that it would have been awesome to say “Yeah, Lord Thomas Burbridge” just to see if that freaked her out. But I was not on the top of my game at the moment.

It was great to see everyone,

and the house we were staying at was pretty awesome.

Lots of cool pictures of both here. I didn’t take pictures at the ceremony, but there were a lot of people taking then, so I bet you can find some good ‘uns.

I got to drive LT and MJ to their hotel because they were staying at the airport. We had to fill up with gas, and it turned out that I missed my flight, but that was pretty cool because I got to hang around with my friends some more and then fly back with Elizabeth the next day. I asked if the ticket-lady could put us together, and she moved us both forward (I was in the far-back of the plane). An odd thing I have noticed is that the last 4 (or more, I can’t remember before because I didn’t fly much with all that driving I did) times I flew, I’ve been in a row of 3 seats, and only had to share it with one person. The weird thing about it is that the flights have all been relatively full, and only once did it happen to be that one of the seats was broken. Huh.

Dave taped the Germany Argentina match (World Cup) and we watched it… all 120 minutes plus injury time, and the tape cut out after two penalty kicks… We had to find out the next day that Germany pulled it out. We were going to watch England Portugal, but the tape cut out after 3 seconds of taping. Apparently the VCR switches to chanel 3 if you turn the TV off while you are taping something (that’s useful).
