I really hate shaving. I usually shave once a week, and hate every second of that torture. One day (or, I should say: “Three days”) I tried shaving every day. That lasted about three days.
So, I read some article that claimed to tell me how to shave. It had all sorts of ideas, but none that I could really implement right off (e.g. “Use a badger hair brush for your shaving cremé.”)
One idea was doable: Shave with the grain, not against it. I tried that this morning. It made the shaving experience less painful and annoying, but it simply doesn’t cut the stubble off. As long as the ladies only pat (pet? caress?) my face in one direction they should be alright, but the other direction is only good for a strong exfoliant.
ha ha ha, exfoliant. personally, I highly recommend an electric razor! I actually have a spare, if you’d like it. are you going to LT and Mary Jo’s wedding? I can hook you up when I see you then.
speaking of shaving…
I would be interested in a electric razor… I tried one once and it seemed to work, but every 3 weeks I had to buy a new $20 part to keep it from not working at all…
oh Dwight – the things I could teach you about shaving. And if you think shaving your face is bad – try shaving your head…not quite the easiest thing in the world. Here are some tips:
1) shave after or during a shower – your skin will be soft, the beard will be soft and it will shave off easier and a bit closer.
2) use an exfoliant before shaving – for instance, I use a Daily Facial Scrub by Noxema before shaving. It gets rid of the dry dead skin that can clog up the razor.
3) yeah, I agree that if you use a brush and creme – it is one of the more wonderful experiences a man can have in a shower by himself. The brush will help lift the beard, and the creme will soften it – I use a great shave cream put out by Shave, inc (www.eshave.com).
4) always, always shave with the grain. I used to shave against it thinking it would be softer. yeah, it was but it also helps create ingrown beard, and you can cut yourself more that way (IMHO).
5) that should be more than enough info about shaving – your face….thank the good lord that you don’t shave any thing else (and if you do – email me and we’ll discuss)
hang in there -
