One thing I remember from my time at SJC is that writing down what you have to say has a way of making you think differently. I’ve had all sorts of thoughts that disapeared when I tried to write them down and defend them. So I think that instant messaging will have some kind of effect on how we communicate. Not only because it lets us communicate over distance (telegraph did that way back) or with little effort (phone did that) but because we have to write out what we might say differently.
