Today is St. Jerome’s day… he is the translator of the Vulgate(from Hebrew/Aramaic/Greek to Latin). Luther is conatantly disagreeing with him about Galatians. Apparently Jerome thought Paul meant the ceremonial law and not the ten commandments each time he said ‘law’ in Galatians. Luther points out that he is doing this to defend the new ceremonial law his church has created. Also Luther laughs at Jerome because everytime Paul says “flesh” aparently Jerome said this meant sexual sin. Luther says this is because Jerome is so fixated on sex, and this is a perfect example why the clergy should be married.

Aparently also Jerome fought with other Catholics in his time over the perpetual virginity of Mary. He claimed that Jesus’ brothers in the bible were his cousins. He was on the minority side of the argument for a time and those who didn’t believe that the bible was wrong chased him out of Rome.
