thumbsdown Jesus Seminar raises controversial issues: “‘There is an enormous gap between what scholars know and assume and what lay people know and assume,’ Patterson said. ‘Most people, not just conservative Christians, assume that what the Bible says happened actually happened.’”

I love the sort of “pick and choose” mentality espoused by Borg and other Jesus Seminar-ians. It allows you to create a Jesus who’s not too confrontational or uncomfortable, and fits perfectly into your life. If Jesus’s claim to be God is too exclusive, just chalk it up as a later addition to the text!

Perhaps I’m being unfair, but that’s the impression I get from some of their stuff.
