MP3Concept Trojan Horse

April 8, 2004 – 7:50 pm

Intego reports that there is a virus out for Mac OS X. Be careful opening mp3 files from shady sources.

** This can apparently also affect other types of files. Just don’t type in your administrator password if some file you downloaded off the internet asks you to when you double click on it and you should be safe.**

***Because of the way this trojan horse works, it has to be encoded if it is to be transmitted. So don’t open any mp3’s that you get which are “foo.mp3.sit” or “foo.mp3.hqx” or .tar or .dmg, or anything else you have to decode before you can open.***
